Retrospective

  • Agile Retrospectives: Making Good Teams Great, by Esther Derby, Diana Larsen : [Monica] has lots of good exercise like MAD/SAD/GLAD, Timeline
  • Linoit : [Monica] free online tool allow you to do a board with stickies, it automatically updates real time when the board is updated, which means you can start remote retrospective offline to collect data, and come together to discuss and generate actions
  • Innovation Games : [Monica] interactive games like Speed Boat, Product Box
  • Starfish (Keep Doing/More Of/Start Doing/Stop Doing/Less Of)
  • Use pictures : [Monica] I made up this one, it’s especially good for teams with quiet members, or they are not comfortable to speak up yet.  Round 1 – each member pick one image to represent his/her experience of the last sprint, then they need to explain to the team why they pick the picture. Round 2 – each member pick one image to represent his/her vision of the next sprint, then they need to explain to the team why they pick the picture, and the facilitator should ask “what action would you take to get from the first picture to the 2nd”

Resources – this has info for books, events and others that may help you to find what you need.

Starting the meeting

We use Check In to begin meetings or anytime an individual or group. This simple check-in process allows us to be present in the meeting and engage in our conversation.

Check-in Steps

1. Speaker says “I feel [one or more of MAD, SAD, GLAD, AFRAID].” Speaker may provide a brief explanation. Or if others have already checked in, the speaker may say “I pass.” (See the Pass protocol.)

2. Speaker says “I’m in.”

3. Listeners respond, “Welcome.”

Turns out I’m not double booked, I’m triple-booked for the next one! But the homework stands, and I’ll be sure to bring a buddy to the one after, and let you know how the beer-with-the-boss goes.
